Recent Achievements

Look at all these students that can already count to 100!

We have also been focusing a lot on writing sentences. At this point in the school year, I give the students a starter sentence: "I can see the......" They should be able to finish the sentence with their own idea and be able to sound out (at least) the beginning sound. We have also been working on correct capitalization, spacing, punctuation, and handwriting. I am continually amazed by the hard work of our students and the beautiful work they can create!

This little star wrote an amazing sentence all by herself. I would expect to see this type of writing at the end of the school year. Mrs. Moro and I were so proud of her and I had to take a picture for the blog. She has a black eye from a park swing :(
"A frog can run a (way) from a (n) alligator."

We wrote about fish earlier in the week.

Housekeeping Items

Be on the lookout for a new folder in your child's bookbag beginning in February. These are our "Take Home Readers." Your child will receive 2 reading books on Monday, have them practice reading it all week, sign the reading log, and return everything on Friday (Folder, reading log, and BOTH books). It's a wonderful program and even the "easy" books help to promote self-esteem in our aspiring readers.

Also, we still have a few students struggling to learn their sight words. I have made special sight word pockets that will be attached to your child's daily folder. Please practice these words each night and try to keep the cards all clipped together and replace them in the pocket (so they don't get lost).

We are only THREE students away from having our whole class on that 100 Lily pad. Your children are AMAZING counters and are so proud of themselves.

Keep up the amazing work at home with your students. Their excitement and positive attitude toward learning makes my job so worthwhile and fulfilling :) I really love our little class in Room 42!

December continued

The next series of pictures are from our Holiday party.

We had a book exchange and then decorated snowflakes.

We also made snow :) Each table in the classroom shared a BIG bowl. It felt just like real snow...cold to the touch and everything. This was a HUGE hit with the students.

WOW!

Time to EAT!!!

This was the class after the school SingALong. Complete with red rudolph noses and all!

Sorry to keep all my parents in suspense from our wonderful party. I am really slacking on the blogs these days. We have BIG things coming in store the next few months. I can't wait to share with everyone!!

I also forgot to share these pictures. We had a guest reader in our classroom...Taylor's Daddy. The kids loved having him read to them. If any other parents are interested in visiting and reading during STAR time (8:25-8:45), please let me know. Our door is always open and your child would love it :)

December Catch-Up Videos

Spinning a driedel can be quite challenging!

We went to the gym with our whole school for a Holiday Sing-A-Long in our jammies :) It was so much fun!!

We also made "snow" at our party! Thanks again to Dawn Urick and all our other helper "elves" that made our students the happiest Kindergarten kids.

More December pictures to follow soon. I promise!!!!
