Getting back into the swing of things

We played another dice rolling game to review our sight words.

For "really" big mistakes, we can use this eraser :)

We just started using these sight word rings. I call students to my back table randomly throughout the day to read their words to me. Every time they are able to identify the sight word, they get a "dot" on that card.

I also let them pick what shape they wanted their ring booklets to be.

This is another family favorite book!

Ask your child if they can retell it for you and if they remember what Dogzilla is scared of in our story.

Fine motor skills practice in Centers.

This week we have also talked about the term "estimation" and that it means a "good guess." We used non-standard measurement items (like cubes) to estimate how tall things were in our classroom.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We just couldn't contain our excitement down the hallway to the cafeteria for our HUGE feast!

CHEESE!!!!
The first one to brave our soup that we cooked all day yesterday :)

I promise he did have a good time :)

Brooke's Mom was in charge of the craft for this party! She collected pinecones around her neighborhood and the kids had a blast making their turkeys.

Fred liked posing with a turkey.

Thanks again to all the parent support for our party! A BIG thank you to Taylor's Mommy and Brooke's Mommy :) We couldn't have done it without all of you guys :) Enjoy your long break with family!!

Getting in the Spirit

Fred the Frog is taking a mini-vacation from visiting houses and has decided to dress-up like an Indian. There have been quite a few discussions amongst the class that Fred's sister might be coming for a visit soon.

Our turkey looks wonderful. You guys did a great job decorating the feathers!
Fred posing with our classroom turkey!

They had already boxed up about 2 boxes of canned food before we could even donate all of ours.

Here is a shot of what all the grade levels have contributed!

Such creative thinkers!

Ms. Johnson, our gifted resource teacher came in and read the book, "Scribbles." After the story, each child was given their own red unique scribble and they had to create a picture from it. I was so impressed with what they came up with!!

Here is a picture from the actual story:

A shoe
A dragon (and he even wrote the beginning sound that he heard).

She drew herself (and a mermaid in the corner for fun).

A bumblebee trail (and again she wrote the beginning sound that she heard).

A dinosaur

Three hills

A heart

A car

Weekly catch-up

We went to a Fire Safety Assembly on Thursday. Ask your child what they learned!

Seasonal Scientists

Today we put on our "science goggles" and went outside to examine a Fall tree more closely.

Here is the tree we observed.

We came inside and drew our observations of Fall trees and leaves in our Fall Journals.

Some of the students even chose to glue their leaves next to their artwork.

I loved her attention to detail!

Today was also the 50th day of school and some of the girls dressed up in their 50s attire :)

Shawn took Fred the Frog home last night!
