Outside

While there was a lot of learning taking place inside our classroom today, we decided to go take advantage of the sunshine out back!!

(Sorry....I thought I had figured out how to flip the layout of the video! Oh well...it's still so cute though)!

Friday!

Today we celebrated a friend's 5th birthday! He sat on my stool while the class sang, "Happy Birthday!"

So cute!!
We also celebrated the first day of Fall and made some Leaf people.

The finished product on our classroom door.

Ms. Johnson (our gifted resource teacher) made her first classroom visit. She read, "Q is for Duck" and the students had to use higher level thinking skills to solve the riddles.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Library Day

Today was an exciting day....the students were able to pick out their own library book and check it out for the whole week!! They were all quite excited to do this. We go to the Library every Thursday, so please make sure your child brings his/her book back to school before then.

In search of the perfect book.....

Tuesday

Open House was a great success! Thank you so much for taking the time to come out last night...we had almost 100 percent attendance for our classroom. I loved all the positive comments about the blog and couldn't wait to post more pictures of your children! We had quite a busy Tuesday and are looking forward to Music class tomorrow. Be sure to check out Mrs. Griffin's Music blog when you get a chance http://pawsomemusic.blogspot.com

We read this book from our "Being A Writer" curriculum. After the story, the students learned how to partner up and share their ideas with one another. They really like listening to their friend's ideas and sharing their own.

Partners....sharing ideas

The students then took their ideas back to their tables and wrote them down on paper. The question from the book was "What do you love about school?" We made a classroom book for our library, but I took a few pictures of the creativity first.

(Alayna likes to play on the playground slide. She even wrote the "P" for play.)

(Kaly likes playing outside with her teachers.)

(Taylor likes to draw on the Promethean Board.)

(Celina likes to play in Centers.)

Someone was very proud of their new outfit today. Love it! How can that pose not bring a smile to your face?!

We continued with our lesson on the letter Bb. We read this story and made our own bear craft.

And the highlight of the day......the BIG kids playground. It was our first time out there!

Open House

Parents....just a reminder that Open House will be this Monday at 7:00 PM. Please try to attend. It's different from our "Meet and Greet" picnic. I will be going over classroom rules and procedures and discussing our Kindergarten curriculum. I hope to see everyone there!

P.S...thank you for all the positive comments and feedback about our Kindergarten blog! I love reading them and seeing who is keeping up with it. If you are not comfortable posting a comment on the blog site, please email me instead :)

A typical day in Kindergarten

Every morning the students unpack their bookbags and immediately get started on their morning work. We listen to the announcements and read quietly on the carpet during STAR time.
Today we went to Music class! They are learning to walk nicely in the hallway and are very respectful towards the other classrooms that are working.

In Math today we worked on the number 7. The students love to interact and write on the Promethean Board any chance they can!

We made a class book today titled, "Things We Can Do." Each child drew a picture of something that they can do really well and even wrote some beginning sounds. They loved sitting in my chair and sharing their picture with their peers.

The last part of our day is spent in Activity Stations (or Centers). Right now there are only toys out. Over the next few weeks we will slowly be introducing independent work activities that will correlate with our letter of the week. During Centers, the students are learning to socialize with their peers, to share, and to stay in their center (and not wander around the room). This is also the time where Mrs. Moro has students at her table working individually and I have students at my back table for Guided Reading and Word Study. It can get noisy at times, but it is very constructive and the students are playing nicely! I walked around the room today and took some snapshots of Center time.
